The Age of Contradictions

We have taller buildings but shorter tempers;
Wider highways but narrower viewpoints…

We spend more, but have less;
We buy more, but are less satisfied.

We have bigger houses but smaller families;
More conveniences, but less time…

We have more education, but less common sense;
More knowledge, but less wisdom…

More experts, yet more problems;
More medicine, but less wellness…

We eat too much, spend too recklessly,
Laugh too little, drive too fast, get angry too quickly.

We stay up too late, wake up too tired,
Read too little, watch too much TV, and rarely express gratitude…

We’ve multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values.
We talk too much, love too little, and hate too often.

Indeed, as George Carlin once said:

“These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion;
Big men and small character;
Steep profits and shallow relationships…”
